Intellectual property rights protection is being strengthened

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the forty-seventh plenary meeting of the Senate, the focus of discussion was the Law “On introducing amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with improving the system of justice bodies of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”

Today, in the country, along with ongoing reforms in all areas, systematic work is being carried out aimed at ensuring reliable legal protection of intellectual property and the provision of high-quality public services.

In this regard, it should be noted that in order to create a compact and effective administrative apparatus in the country that professionally serves the population, further strengthening the role and responsibility of justice authorities in solving the legal problems of the population, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been assigned additional tasks to protect intellectual property and provide state services.

Also, taking into account reforms in this area, further improvement of legislation becomes important, including, in order to support the needy segments of the population, securing at the legislative level the benefits provided in the provision of certain categories of public services.

The law was developed in accordance with the ongoing reforms; amendments and additions are being made to clarify the powers of the Ministry of Justice, taking into account the fact that the tasks, functions and powers of intellectual property agencies and public services have been transferred to the ministry.

As the senators noted, the Law stipulates the protection of intellectual property in the export regime by introducing amendments to the Customs Code.

In addition, the time frame for issuing certificates of a trademark, appellation of origin of goods and the right to use the appellation of origin of goods is being reduced.

Judicial authorities are empowered to apply liability for violations of legislation in the field of intellectual property and the provision of public services.

In addition, it is established that a fifty percent discount on the use of public services is applied to persons registered in the “Unified Register of Social Protection” information system, as well as to persons with disabilities of groups I and II.

During the discussion, it was noted that the implementation of the Law serves to improve the quality of public services and support socially needy segments of the population, as well as strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights and ensure an effective centralized management system in these areas.

At the end of the discussion, the senators approved the Law.
