Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 19 April, the Scientific Society for the Study of Life Science of the Chinese Science and Technology Association released the Blue Book "Technical Advances in Research in the Field of Life Science".
It notes that innovative research in the field of life science and industrialization in pharmaceuticals has become the main "soft power" of China, made a significant contribution to countering the coronavirus pandemic and promoting international cooperation in research and development of vaccines, which revealed the important role of life science and related production activities in the field of guaranteeing public health and state security, Xinhua reported.
Wang Xiaoning, executive secretary of the Life Science Research Society of the Chinese Science and Technology Association, noted that China has a perfect vaccination system, thanks to which, in the fight against the epidemic, the country was the first in the world to develop a vaccine that meets quality standards. To date, the Chinese company Sinopharm has delivered more than 100 million doses of inactivated vaccines to more than 190 countries around the world. China also leads the world in a number of research on advanced applied technologies such as stem cells, biomedicine and genetic modification.
In recent years, China has been in the second tier of countries in international research and development of new drugs. In 2019, the country approved 56 types of new drugs, surpassing the United States for the first time in their number.
China has the most optimal pharmaceutical production system, and the research potential in the development of new drugs is growing every day. However, China continues to be significantly dependent on technical imports, in particular related to scientific and technical information, experiments on laboratory animals, scientific instruments and equipment.
In order to overcome these risks and difficulties, Wang Xiaoning called for an emphasis on fundamental research and innovation, encourage the implementation of more major scientific projects with the participation of Chinese scientists, and strengthen innovation capacity and the sharing of scientific resources.
