Uzbekistan 04/12/2007 Incumbent Uzbek leader meets voters in northwestern region
On these days, the candidates for the presidency are continuing to familiarize voters with their election manifestos. Islam Karimov, a candidate from the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (LDPU) - the movement of businessmen and entrepreneurs - today met voters in Karakalpakstan.

Islam Karimov, a candidate for the Uzbek presidency from the LDPU, today met voters in Nukus, administrative centre of Karakalpakstan. Soli Kudaybergenov, the head of regional district electoral commission No 1 in Karakalpakstan, opened the meeting.

The candidate familiarized those who gathered with his election manifesto. It includes taking measures to consistently continue the processes of large-scale reforms in all fields in Uzbekistan; strengthening democratic standards; ensuring the supremacy of the law and social justice; stimulating the farmers’ movement, small business and private entrepreneurship; and reducing the tax burden.

Islam Karimov also spoke in detail about the prospects for developing the northernmost region [of Uzbekistan] which plays a key role in social and economic life of our country. The participants in the meeting were representatives of the public, farmers, businessmen, neighbourhood activists, veterans and young people. Those who spoke at the meeting, on behalf of voters, expressed their opinions on Islam Karimov’s election manifesto.
