Uzbekistan 26/11/2007 Incumbent Karimov vows more democratic reforms
Uzbek official media outlets published election programmes of four candidates for the Uzbek presidency registered by the Central Elections Commission (CEC). The Uzbek presidential elections are scheduled for 23 December 2007.

The list of candidates for the Uzbek presidency include Asliddin Rustamov from the People’s Democratic Party, Dilorom Toshmukhamedov from the Adolat social and democratic party, Akmal Saidov, an independent candidate, and Islam Karimov from the Uzbek Liberal and Democratic Party and the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen.

Islam Karimov expressed in his programme concerns "further modernization of the country, the renovation of society, further continuation of reforms aimed at accelerated economic development and guaranteeing a stable macroeconomic balance, as well as providing benefits and preferences to businessmen and farmers."

As to economic and social policies, particular attention should be paid to maintaining principles that rule out excessive social inequality, Karimov’s manifesto reads.
