Important tasks facing Uzbek sports discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 July, a meeting was held in Tashkent on issues included in the agenda of the meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, as well as summing up the results of work in the field of sports for the first half of 2023 and plans for the second half of the year. 

The event, organized by the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, was attended by Minister Adkham Ikramov and his deputy Shakhrullo Makhmudov, Secretary General of the NOC Oybek Kasimov, Vice-Chairmen of the Committee Azizjon Kamilov and Sherzod Tashmatov, Chairman of the National Paralympic Committee Mukhtorkhon Tashkhodjaev, leadership of the schools of the Higher Sportsmanship of the Republic, Federations and Associations for Olympic and Paralympic sports in the regions, sports veterans. Officials of the Department of Youth Policy and Sports in the regions connected to the event through the Zoom platform.

In his opening speech, the minister highlighted not only high sports achievements, but also the ongoing work to strengthen the promotion of mass sports throughout the country, the results achieved in this area. In particular, he spoke about a significant increase in the salaries of coaches of sports schools, improvement of the material and technical base of sports educational institutions, high achievements of athletes in the international arena, and continuously organized local and international training camps. In addition, he added that each direction should also be considered in a critical spirit, not resting on its laurels. Adkham Ilhamovich noted that the trust of the Uzbek people and the President should be justified at the upcoming games of the World Summer Universiade Chengdu-2021 this year, the II Games of the CIS (Belarus), the XIX Summer Asian Games Hangjou-2022.

Oybek Kasimov, who hosted the event, gave an overview of the complex competitions that will be organized during 2023. Shakhrullo Makhmudov and Sherzod Tashmatov focused on the preparation of national teams for these competitions, expected results, goals. The delegation of Uzbekistan, which is expected to take part in the Hangjou 2022 Asian Games with more than 400 athletes, was tasked with winning at least 30 gold medals, entering the top four in the team standings, obtaining the maximum number of licenses in the types of programs that give trips for the Paris 2024 Olympics. It was also added that at the Universiade and the CIS Games, our delegation will have big goals that need to be achieved. In particular, it was emphasized that most of the roster participating in the CIS Games consists of the generation that is expected to participate in the Tashkent 2025 Asian Youth Games.

In turn, the Chairman of the National Paralympic Committee Mukhtarkhon Tashkhodjaev and his deputy Otabek Ergashev touched upon the development of the Paralympic Movement in the country, the creation of wide opportunities for sports for people with disabilities and future plans. M. Tashkhodjaev said that thanks to the successful participation of the Uzbek delegation in the World Para-athletics Championships held in France, domestic athletes have already won 15 tickets to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. And in the course of the competition, further improvement of this indicator is expected. The officials spoke about the priority of ensuring the worthy participation of our delegation in the Hangjou 2022 Para-Asian Games and the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

During the meeting, additional instructions were given to responsible persons to pay great attention to medical support in sports educational institutions of national teams and regions, to increase scientific and methodological application in them, to increase the calorie content of food in the diet of athletes, to create maximum conditions for teams preparing for complex competitions. It was also announced that other issues will be considered tomorrow at the next extended meeting of the Collegium of the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports.
