Immunization Week starts in Europe, Central Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Week of Immunization will be held in the forty-six countries of Europe and Central Asia from 24 April to 1 May under aegis of the World Health Organization and the UN Children Fund (UNICEF).

The UN News Center reported that the campaign would be the fifth campaign in the region, directed at informing population about importance of the vaccination. This year, the week will be directed at liquidation of measles and rubella.

The report said WHO registered 200,000 cases of measles in the region in 1994, 30,000 cases in 2008 and 8,000 in 2009.

The report said that the coverage of the children vaccination decreased significantly in many countries of the region. Only 76% of children were vaccinated against measles in western Europe.
