IMF ready to support Uzbekistan in WTO accession

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 December, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting of the Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade, head of the Negotiating Group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, Badriddin Abidov, with the Permanent Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Uzbekistan by Kevin Ross. It was also attended by representatives of relevant ministries and departments of Uzbekistan.

During the dialogue, the Uzbek side provided information on the work done in the framework of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO and the upcoming priorities to accelerate this process in 2023.

In particular, during the conversation, special attention was paid to the current results of the activities of the members of the Interdepartmental Commission for Work with the WTO, the Negotiating Group and 10 thematic working groups, as well as their coordinated and operational work in the process of preparing all the necessary documents requested by the member countries of the Organization, with coordinating role of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.

The importance of working with donor countries and organizations in the framework of the implementation of technical assistance programs was also emphasized.

in the process of joining the WTO. With their participation over the past 3 years, more than 250 trainings and seminars have been organized, studies have been conducted on the impact of joining the Organization on various sectors of the economy, and other related activities have been carried out.

Following the meeting, the Resident Representative of the IMF confirmed his readiness to continue providing comprehensive support to further advance the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.
