IMF mission presents regional economic review in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A mission of International Monetary Fund (IMF) is visiting Uzbekistan from 28 November to 8 December 2012 to assess development of economic and financial system for last several years within annual consultations with the Government. The mission is led by Veronica Bacalu.

During the talks, the sides are paying attention to economic development of Uzbekistan in condition of global economic crisis, measures on economic policy, adopted in 2012, economic results in 2012, perspectives of economic development in 2013 and in mid-term future, as well as actual issues of economic policy.

IMF regularly publishes analytical and strategic information on development of global economy as a whole, by regions and countries.

Today, Uzbekistan Banking Association at the support of the Central Bank, IMF mission hosted a presentation of publication “Regional Economic Outlook for the Middle East and Central Asia”.

The presentation was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, students of Banking-Finance Association, and commercial banks.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is engaged in the promotion of international cooperation in the monetary sphere, helping to ensure financial stability, promotes international trade and sustainable economic growth.

It should be noted that the IMF regularly provides technical assistance to Uzbekistan, which contributed to the improvement of banking legislation, statistical systems and reporting, budget classification and the development of payment systems, monetary policy.

In particular, IMF recommendations were taken into account in laws “On Central Bank of Uzbekistan”, “On banks and banking activities” and “On currency regulation”.

The Fund rendered assistance to development of new charts of accounts, corresponding to international standards, introduction of new system of accounting and reporting, which allowed to raise efficiency of banking supervision and legislative framework.

This year, the Central Bank attracted IMF technical assistance on further improving legal framework for banking supervision and quality of work of the CBU in this area as part of the Programme of Government on further reforming and improving stability of the banking system of Uzbekistan for 2011-2015 and achieving high international rating figures.
