Imam al-Bukhari Complex Draws Over 1 Million Visitors
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex in Samarkand has welcomed more than 1 million visitors in the first month after its reopening, according to data reported by the O'zbekiston TV channel, which covered operations at the site that has recently become one of Uzbekistan’s key religious and cultural tourism hubs.
Located in in Samarkand, Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex was reconstructed and modernized as part of large-scale architectural upgrades. Following renovation, it significantly expanded its capacity and has become one of the largest pilgrimage centers in the region, receiving both domestic and international visitors.
Before the upgrade, the facility could accommodate about 12,000 visitors per day. After reconstruction, its capacity increased to 65,000 visitors daily. The expansion of infrastructure was a key factor behind the sharp rise in tourist inflows.
Visitors have praised the landscaped grounds, green zones, comfortable walking areas, and developed visitor infrastructure. In the evening, the complex gains a distinctive architectural appearance thanks to its lighting system, making it an additional attraction for tourists.
Guests also note the improved overall conditions and the suitability of the site for family visits. Strong interest in the complex is reflected in the high daily visitor numbers.
The Imam al-Bukhari Memorial Complex is regarded as an important element in the development of pilgrimage tourism and cultural heritage in Uzbekistan, as well as a symbol of preserving and promoting the historical legacy of Islamic civilization.
