IKA President resigns due to health problems
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In the beginning of January 2014 the President of the International Kurash Association (IKA) Mr. Yusupov sent a resignation letter in which he asked the IKA’s Directing Committee members to accept his request to step down from the position of the IKA President due to the recent health problems and the need to take more time for the medical treatment.

Mr. Yusupov was the first IKA President elected to this position during the first Inaugural Congress meeting when the IKA was founded in 1998. Since then he was re-elected to the IKA President positions several times, the last re-election taking place in 2011. Mr. Yusupov is also the author of the International Kurash Rules, the Kurash competition and refereeing rules which are used at all Kurash competitions held under the IKA in the world.

The International Kurash Association’s Directing Committee members expressed to Mr. Yusupov their sincere wishes of speedy recovery and accepted his resignation. They also sincerely thanked him for all the hard work and contribution to Kurash promotion in the world during his 15 years tenure as the IKA President.

In accordance with the Statutes of the IKA, the Directing Committee members of the IKA have to appoint an Interim President of the IKA who will lead the organization till the next IKA Congress meeting. Upon the proposal of the IKA Chairman Mr. Jagdish Tytler, the IKA’s Directing Committee members made a decision to appoint Mr. Haider Farman, the IKA Vice President and the President of the Kurash Confederation of Asia as the Interim President of the International Kurash Association.

Mr. Farman is a significant figure in the world of sport. In Asia he occupies the key position of the Director of the Asian Games Department of the Olympic Council of Asia for the last 14 years, since 2009 he is the Member of the ANOC (Association of National Olympic Committees) working Group for the Olympic Games, and since 2007 he is the Olympic Solidarity Administrator for Asian Continent.

The Directing Committee members of the IKA would like to wish Mr. Farman a successful and fruitful activity in the position of the Interim President of the IKA and offer him their full support and assistance, they are adamant that Mr. Farman’s experience and respect in the world of sport will significantly benefit the promotion of Kurash and positions of the IKA.
