Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 May 2023, the capital will host the II International Forum "Application of best practices to reduce poverty". Experts will review the best practices for fighting poverty and the results of Uzbekistan’s achievements, including their effectiveness, with a view to further disseminating the experience gained in developing countries.

This year the forum was organized by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) together with the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The forum is organized with the support of the United Nations Development Program in Uzbekistan and the Representative Office of the United Nations Children’s Fund in Uzbekistan.

About 200 delegates are expected to attend the Second International Forum on Combating Poverty, which will be held in our country, including experts from the global initiative to combat poverty J-PAL, UN, UNDP, ILO, WB, UNICEF, ADB, FAR, GIZ, GGGI, etc.

The participation of the Alfred Nobel laureate, co-founder of the J-PAL global initiative to fight poverty, Abhijit Banerjee, as well as George Washington University professor of economics, researching welfare economics and measuring poverty, James Foster and director of the Oxford Initiative to fight poverty and human capital Sabina Alkair will be of great importance.

Vice President of the Asian Development Bank Shichen Chen, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Consuelo Vidal Brus, Head of the UNICEF Office in Uzbekistan Munir Mammadzade, Head of the World Bank in Uzbekistan Marco Mantovanelli and Director of the International Center for Poverty Alleviation of the People’s Republic of China Liu Junwen, Deputy Director of the National Department of Rural Rehabilitation in China Zhang Qianbao will also attend the event.

In addition, representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as the diplomatic corps are expected to attend.

The purpose of the International Forum will be to study the best world practices and methods of combating poverty, to form priority areas for future joint research in the coming years with a special focus on an integrated and comprehensive approach to resolving multidimensional poverty, social protection and targeting, improving the quality of training programs in the labor market through the development human capital, supporting the growth of small businesses, expanding access to high-quality education.

Participants will review the methods and results of Uzbekistan’s achievements in the implementation of anti-poverty measures, including their effectiveness, with a view to further disseminating the experience gained in developing countries.

Within the framework of the Forum, it is planned to sign a number of cooperation documents and adopt a joint communiqué, including the signing of the Cooperation Program between the Center for Economic Research and Reforms and the J-PAL global initiative.
