IFA conference takes place in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A regional conference titled “Current state and trends in development of international markets of mineral fertilizers and related industries” started its work in Tashkent on 3 April 2012.

The two-day conference has been organized by the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) in cooperation with Uzkimyosanoat state joint stock company.

The forum is aimed at discussing modern trends in global and regional fertilizer markets, as well as issues of production and ecologic security in this sector of industry.

Representatives of ministries and departments of Uzbekistan and Uzkimyosanoat, as well as 110 delegates from 30 countries of the world are attending the event.

During the conference, the participants will familiarize with production, investment and export potential of chemistry industry of Uzbekistan.

IFA has some 540 members in about 85 countries. About half of the membership is based in developing countries. IFA member companies represent all activities related to the production, trade, transport and distribution of every type of fertilizer, their raw materials and intermediates.

IFA's membership also includes organizations involved in construction, engineering, consulting, agronomic research and training.

The global fertilizer industry produces some 170 million tonnes of fertilizer nutrients annually. These are used in every corner of the globe to support agricultural production. There is no substitute for the nutrients absorbed by crops. As a major source of these, fertilizers therefore represent an essential ingredient in the drive towards world food security.

Luc Maene, Director General of IFA, said that Central Asia has huge potential in economic development and the organization of conference in Tashkent is connected with that Uzbekistan in important and active participant of mineral fertilizers market. The forum will help to determine further expanding of mutual beneficial cooperation.

At the conference, it was noted that Uzbekistan’s chemical industry pays great attention to security and ecologic issues. The country implements a complex of measures in this direction. Uzbek chemical enterprises also implement six projects directed at cutting green house gas emission.
