Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An IAEA regional meeting on the current state of applied nuclear research will be held in Samarkand in the fall.

According to Dunyo news agency, Ambassador of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Ibragimov met with Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Head of the Department of Nuclear Science and Applications Nazhat Mokhtar.

During the meeting, the current state and prospects for cooperation in the use of nuclear technologies in various areas of the national economy and medicine of Uzbekistan were discussed. 

Nazhat Mokhtar highly appreciated the progress of Uzbekistan in scientific research and applied work, including the use of ionizing radiation sources for medical purposes, sterilization of medical and food products, and provision of radiation protection. The significant role of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences and other scientific and research laboratories of the country in the development of nuclear energy science was noted.

The parties reached an agreement to hold a regional IAEA meeting on the current state of applied nuclear research, proposed by the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, in Samarkand in September-October.
