During the visit Sayyora Rashidova held negotiations with Justice Provedor (Ombudsperson) of Portugal Alfredo Jose De Sousa. The sides exchanged opinion on activity of Ombudsperson institute in Uzbekistan and Portugal. The sides considered issues on establishing and developing bilateral cooperation and multilateral interactions within European and Asian international organizations.

Welcoming the Uzbek delegation, Alfredo Jose De Sousa praised development of bilateral cooperation between states in politics, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

The Uzbek delegation briefed the Portugal side on activity of Ombudsperson institute, its rights and responsibility, work on reviewing complaints of population, interaction with the state bodies, as well as memorandum of cooperation.

Alfredo Jose De Sousa expressed interest in carrying out reforms in judicial-legal system in Uzbekistan, which decreased complaints numbers. He also welcomed abolishment of death penalty and introduction of habeas corpus in Uzbekistan.

During the visit, the Uzbek delegation also held negotiations with the officials of Portugal, including representatives of Foreign Affairs Ministry and parliament.

On the result of the visit, Ombudspersons of Uzbekistan and Portugal inked agreement on cooperation, the report said.

In line with the agreement, the sides will develop cooperation between Ombudspersons through information exchange, holding conferences and training, assisting in protection of human rights, interaction within international organization, etc.
