How has Samarkand changed before the SCO summit?

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 15-16 September 2022, Uzbekistan, Samarkand will host the 22nd summit of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

For the first time in the last three years, the leaders of the countries will come together in a face-to-face format. This will be a unique and effective opportunity to discuss the accumulated issues of a bilateral, regional and global nature.

All the necessary infrastructure has been prepared for the summit in Samarkand; a new modern and high-tech airport was built.

The airport terminal building is a "synthesis of the past and the present" and has the shape of an "open book", symbolizing the main work of the scientist Mirzo Ulugbek "Ziji Jadidi Kuragoniy" ("New Kuragoni Astronomical Table"). And constellations are depicted on its roof. The building is 175 meters wide and 25 meters high.

This will once again remind the residents and guests of the city of the contribution of the outstanding astronomer Mirzo Ulugbek to the development of science and civilization of all mankind.

For the comfort of travelers, the most modern technologies have been introduced: a new type of check-in for passengers and luggage and the most convenient boarding service.

The airport is able to serve up to 800 people per hour and up to 120 flights per week.

For SCO guests and, of course, tourists, a new Samarkand International Tourist Center was built - it is here that the events of the planned summit will be held. The main construction occupied 135 hectares.

On the two banks of the famous Rowing Canal there are: the ethno-town "Eternal City", a winery, hotels and an impressive three-story Congress Hall, where meetings of the leaders of the SCO countries will be held directly. Its area is 2800 sq. meters, and the area of the main hall, where the meetings of the first persons will be held, is 65x65 m, the height is 14 meters.

Gashtak, an artificial lake for fishing, was created on the territory of the tourist center. The central square will delight tourists with a "singing" fountain, and you can stay in the Eco Village cottage town.

Eight hotels of international level with a total fund of about 1,200 rooms have opened their doors in the Silk Road Samarkand multifunctional tourist center. Two of them correspond to the category of 5 stars, and one of them - Samarkand Regency Amir Temur - is the first and so far the only hotel in Central Asia, included in the association of leading hotels in the world The Leading Hotels of the World.

This is another local attraction. The canal is 2,180 meters long and over 150 meters wide. It fully complies with international standards for rowing competitions.

Various international competitions will be held here. In particular, it has already been decided that the Youth Asian Olympiad will be held in Uzbekistan in 2025, and rowing tournaments will be held in Samarkand.

The SCO summit in Samarkand will be the fourth to be held in Uzbekistan. Previously, such a significant international event was held in 2004, 2010 and 2016 and only in Tashkent.
