Housing construction has almost doubled over the past five years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) analyzed the impact of ongoing reforms on the provision of housing to the population and the development of the mortgage market.

Over the past five years, housing construction has almost doubled, and the per capita housing supply has increased from 15.7 to 18.2 square meters, or 16 percent. In 2022, 24.3 thousand apartments were put into operation, including 3.5 thousand apartments in the New Uzbekistan blocks.

In 2022, commercial banks allocated 8.2 trillion soums of mortgage loans to 37.6 thousand families for the construction or purchase of private housing (2 times more than in 2021), subsidies were paid to 16.7 thousand low-income families in the amount of 767, 4 billion soums.

Measures taken in 2022 to provide the population with housing and develop the mortgage market:

- 730 billion soums were allocated from the republican budget for the construction of road and engineering infrastructure, including 470 billion soums in the New Uzbekistan massifs;

- 49.5 billion soums of compensation were paid to 282 business entities from the State Fund for Entrepreneurship Support for partial reimbursement of bank loans;

- 1.6 trillion soums of loans were allocated by commercial banks to 380 contracting organizations for the construction of 724 multi-storey residential buildings;

- 59.6 thousand tons of rolled metal and 36.4 thousand tons of cement were sold on a separate trading floor of the Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange.

At the same time, in order to provide the population with housing and further develop the mortgage market, it is proposed to pay attention to the following aspects:

- continuation of effective reforms aimed at increasing the level of provision of the population with housing, further development of the mortgage market, and attraction of investments into the industry;

- creation of an appropriate infrastructure for housing construction based on the proposals of residents and entrepreneurs in demanded areas;

- expanding the use of renewable energy sources, as well as the introduction of energy-saving "green" technologies to improve the energy efficiency of construction and reconstruction of buildings and structures, as well as during their operation.
