High water levels in Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers are expected this year

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Due to precipitation this year, high water levels are expected in Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers. This was stated by the Minister of Water Resources of Uzbekistan Shavkat Khamrayev.

Speaking about cooperation on the use of water resources, he noted that the five countries of Central Asia are agreeing on water limits.

“All five states agree on water limits. Our last meeting was held in Shymkent, where we discussed the current state of reservoirs.

It is predicted that due to heavy rainfall this year, the water level in the Amudarya and Syrdarya rivers will be higher than last year. We expect water levels to remain at last year’s levels. As for long-term norms, 85-90% of water is predicted in the Syrdarya River, and up to 90-95% in the Amudarya River,” the minister noted.

He also added that currently an additional 1.5 billion cubic meters of water have been created in Uzbekistan’s reservoirs compared to last year.
