High school students to learn a second foreign language

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Presidential Resolution “On additional measures to teach students of general secondary educational institutions foreign languages and modern professions” was adopted.

According to the Resolution, from the 2024/2025 academic year, gradually as an experiment:

in grades 10–11 of schools, along with education based on the basic curriculum, educational programs are also being introduced in the areas of “In-depth training in subjects” and “Training in business and professions”;

within the framework of the direction “In-depth teaching of subjects” - the educational process is organized with an emphasis on exact, natural science disciplines or a foreign language;

within the framework of the “Business and Professions Training” direction, students are trained in blue-collar professions or professions in the field of digital technologies.

Starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, the following procedure for teaching foreign languages is being gradually introduced, according to which:

in grades 5–9, students develop basic knowledge and speech skills;

in grades 10–11, the focus is on developing students' academic writing and speaking skills;

Students who have chosen a foreign language within the framework of the “In-depth teaching of subjects” direction are taught a second foreign language in grades 10–11.

Starting from the 2024/2025 academic year, schools will establish teaching practice for students of state universities who train teachers in foreign languages.

As part of the “Training for Business and Professions” direction, workshops are being created in schools and the position of “Master of Vocational Training” is being introduced, whose salary is equal to that of a secondary school teacher with a higher education.

According to the Resolution, it is permitted to provide, on the basis of a direct contract, the free use of empty school buildings to participants in the program “20 thousand entrepreneurs - 500 thousand qualified specialists” for the creation of practical monocenters and subsequent training of students in professions.
