Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In 2022, the volume of greenhouse production in Uzbekistan increased by 11.1%, and the production of greenhouse tomatoes - by 26% compared to 2021. At the same time, the share of tomatoes in the total production of greenhouse products increased by 8.5 percentage points.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in January-December 2022, 301 thousand tons of agricultural products were grown in the greenhouses of Uzbekistan, of which 211 thousand tons were tomatoes, that is, 70.1% of the total production of greenhouse products, EastFruit experts report.
For comparison, in 2021, 271 thousand tons of products were produced in the greenhouses of Uzbekistan, of which 167 thousand tons of tomatoes, i.e. 61.6% of the total greenhouse production.
Thus, in 2022, the share of tomatoes in the total production of greenhouse products increased from 61.6% to 70.1%.
According to the ministry, currently 3,157 farms and agricultural enterprises are engaged in the production of greenhouse products in Uzbekistan. The total area of their greenhouses is 6.3 thousand hectares.
As of April 2022, the share of hydroponic greenhouses was 17%, and the rest was soil-based greenhouses.
