Gov’t approves measures on increasing consumer goods production
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Government of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution “On additional measures on increasing the volume of production and expanding of assortment of produced non-food consumer goods for 2012-2015”.

The document said that within the implementation of approved programmes on priorities of industrial development for 2011-2015 and on preliminary measures on expanding production and launch of production of competitive products, Uzbekistan launched 14 new enterprises in textile sector and 15 enterprises in leather-footwear industry in 2011. At the same time, some 14 textile enterprises and 17 leather-footwear enterprises were modernized and their capacities were expanded.

In the result of adopted measures on modernization and update of production potential of industries, which produce non-food consumer goods, Uzbekistan started to produce 48 new textile products and 24 types of leather and footwear goods in 2011. In 2005-2011, the volume of production of textile and ready-made garments and knitwork rose by 3.2 times, footwear – 3.8 times and leather goods – by 11.6 times.

At the same time, growing demand of population and industries require rapid expansion of volumes and assortment of produced local non-food consumer goods, first of all ready products, the document said.

In order to ensure growth of volumes and expanding assortment of produced modern non-food consumer goods, competitive in internal and external markets, the Government of Uzbekistan adopted additional measures on increasing production and expanding assortment of non-food consumer goods for 2012-2015.

In particular, the government approved a list of investment projects on creation of new and modernization of existing textile, ready-made garments and knitwork enterprises for 2012-2014. The list included ten projects with estimated cost of US$80.704 million.

Cabinet of ministers also approved a list of investment projects on creation of new and modernization of existing enterprises in leather and footwear industry for 2012-2014. The list has 36 projects for US$16.767 million. According to the resolution, textile, ready-made garments and knitwork enterprises, included to the list of investment projects, will have to ensure that at least 50% of their products are exported.

Production of leather and footwear enterprises will be directed at saturation of internal market and import-replacing products within the localization programme, as well as expanding exports.

The Government also allowed enterprises of Uzbekistan, processing cotton fiber, to pay for purchased cotton fiber within 120 days from the date of supply.

In the result of adopted measures, Uzbekistan will increase production of cotton yarn by 2.9 times to 524,000 tonnes by 2015 compared to 2011, cotton fabrics – by 2.2 times to 295.7 million square meters and stockinet - by 2.3 times to 60,300 tonnes.

By 2015, Uzbekistan is planning to produce 241.3 million units of knitwork (+2.1 times), 22.1 million ready-made garments (+2.3 times), and 60.5 million pairs of hosiery (+2.5 times).

The Government of Uzbekistan is planning to increase production of raw silk yarms by 2.1 times to 2,473.7 tonnes and silk fabrics by 2.6 times to 8.302 million square meters.

Production of leather products will grow by 1.9 times to 468 million square decimeters by 2015 and footwear – by 2.1 times to 14.204 million pairs.
