GM Uzbekistan to modernize production capacities
GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-US car maker, will modernize production capacities for US$48.6 million in 2008-2009, UzAvtoprom said.

Supervisory Board of Uzbekistan approved several projects on reconstruction and modernization of production capacities of the venture, including construction of new molding shop and replacement of outdated equipment.

New molding shop with the cost of US$25.2 million and with the capacity of 2.6 million of body panels will increase total produce from 7.3 million units to 8.8 million panels a year. The capacities are increased due to launch of production of Lacetti and new car of euro-4 (analogue of Matiz).

GM Uzbekistan plans to launch serial production of Lacetti with the cost of US$47.7 million. It is expected the plant will produce 30,000 cars.

It is also planned to modernize equipment of main and auxiliary production with the total cost of US$23.4 million.

The realization of these projects is part of general strategy of the enterprise, envisaging to increase production to 250,000 cars a year.

The projects will be financed due to own resources of GM Uzbekistan.
