GFZ to construct earthquake monitoring labs in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) is planning to construct about 10 additional scientific laboratories on monitoring and early notification of earthquakes in Uzbekistan, Jahon news agency reported.

Stefano Parolai, head of the center for earth warning of GFZ, said that GFZ considers Uzbekistan as important country in the region, which possesses solid scientific-research and cadre potential for holding joint studies. He expressed hope to further expanding of cooperation with Uzbek partners. Parolai said that powerful earthquake takes part in this part of the world due to frequent natural cataclysms.

He said that mountainous districts of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are prone to seismic activity and there are great risks of destruction of construction objects in the result of earthquakes.

Currently, GFZ is cooperation with all countries of the region is holding detailed scientific-research work on studying existing risks of earthquakes. Its results will be published in the first half of 2013, and will become important document, which will allow countries to assess real seismic situation in the region, he added.
