Culture 18/02/2008 Germany shows interest in Uzbek architectural heritage
The scholars, researchers and students of the Potsdam specialized higher educational institution, which have participated at the summer academy, shared their assessments and views on the results of official trip to Uzbekistan, rich architectural heritage of the Uzbek land, attention paid in the country to preserve and revive the historical monuments, Jahon information agency reported.

The rector of the institution, professor Y.Wielhaber said that the summer academic courses in which more than 70 specialists and students took part were organized jointly with the Ministry for Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan, Tashkent and Samarkand institutes of construction and architecture given the financial support of the MFA of Germany, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Gerta Henkel Fund. According to him, these courses will further play an important role in implementing the joint projects in the future.

While speaking about the invaluable character of historical monuments of Uzbekistan Mr. Wielhaber has underscored that they are well known all around the world as unique architectural heritage of all mankind. He has highly assessed the measures undertaken by the government of Uzbekistan directed at studying and preserving historical monuments.

Professor B.Schtaigerwald told about the topography of historical monuments in the city of Samarkand and drew attention of participants of the event to the history of Afrosiab as well as the madrassah of Ulughbek, Sherdor and Tillakori in the Registan Square. He has said that carrying out the joint restoration works and implementing projects in this direction are very important in preserving these invaluable masterpieces for forthcoming generations.

Within the framework of the event the photography exhibition on the activities of the summer academy, television footages by the Davr News Program of the Uzbek television, documentary on the Uzbek historical architectural monuments have also been demonstrated.
