Germany intends to deport Afghans to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Germany intends to deport Afghans who are not eligible for refugee status to Uzbekistan, German media reported. Ir is expected that Afghans will be send to Afghanistan later.

According to Der Spiegel, at the end of May 2024, a German delegation, on behalf of German Interior Minister Nancy Feser, visited Tashkent. During the visit, the delegation discussed with the government of Uzbekistan Germany’s plan to deport Afghans.

Der Spiegel notes that about 13,000 Afghans living in Germany are not eligible for refugee status.

In exchange for accepting the Afghans, Uzbekistan offered to sign a migration agreement that would regulate the entry of Uzbek citizens into Germany. Preparation of such an agreement has already been going on for several months.

According to Der Spiegel, the German government’s special commissioner for migration agreements, Joachim Stamp, will travel to Uzbekistan to continue negotiations next week.

The Afghan airline KamAir, whose flights from Tashkent are planned to return Afghans to Kabul, has reliable contacts with the Taliban and has already helped Sweden with deportations, Der Spiegel reports.
