German MP holds talks at Uzbek Foreign Ministry
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Speaker on economic policy, coordinator on energy issues of CDU/CSU party at German Bundestag Joachim Pfeiffer held negotiations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan on 13 June 2011.

Joachim Pfeiffer arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in roundtable titled “Post-crisis development of Germany and Uzbekistan: opportunities, challenges and perspectives”, which was organized by Center for Economic Research (Uzbekistan) in cooperation with the office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Tashkent.

The sides exchanged opinion on modern economic policies of two states and ongoing reforms. It was noted that currently Uzbekistan implements strategic action programme in democratization, rule of law, formation of civil society and protection of human rights and freedoms.

On the initiative of the Uzbek President, the concept for further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society in the country for mid- and long-term was adopted. In this context, the Uzbek side underlined that it is paying special attention to reforming legislation to increase responsibility of the executive power, introducing novelties to election laws, sharing authorities among powers, strengthening mass media and civil society.

During the discussion of ties, it was said that Germany is key economic partner of Uzbekistan in Europe. Currently, German businesses are boosting investment cooperation with Uzbekistan. In particular, such German companies as MAN, Class, Daimler-Benz, Knauf created joint ventures on production of lorries, buses, tractors, passenger transport and construction materials.

Joachim Pfeiffer received information of preferences and befits for foreign investors, who are investing into projects at Navoi free industrial and economic zone.

The sides discussed other actual issues, representing mutual interests.
