Gas explosion in Andijan mosque under investigation: Three fatalities reported
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has issued a decree establishing a government commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding a gas explosion at a mosque in Izbaskan district, Andijan region, according to Prime Minister’s spokesperson Bekzod Khidoyatov.
The commission is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov and is tasked with determining the causes of the incident and developing preventive measures to avoid similar emergencies in the future.
The government has also mandated comprehensive assistance for the families of the victims and the injured, including medical support.
The explosion occurred on 31 March in the mosque’s ablution facility, causing the collapse of its walls and roof.
Emergency response teams, including two rescue squads and two fire-rescue units, were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Tragically, three people lost their lives, and ten others sustained injuries.
Regional governor Shukhratbek Abdurakhmanov, along with Minister of Emergency Situations Botir Kudratkhodjayev and Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov—who were in the Ferghana Valley at the time—arrived at the site to oversee the situation.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations has released a list of casualties. The deceased have been identified as M. Abdullayev, J. Anvarov, and B. Burkhanov. The injured include G. Toylokov, A. Abdirayimjonov, Kh. Zukhritdinov, I. Rakhimov, M. Mamaturayimov, I. Shomurodov, K. Kosimov, U. Boltaboyev, M. Abdurakhmanov, and M. Boltaboyev. All injured individuals have been hospitalized and are receiving necessary medical care.
