Fuel, light industries contribute to growth of industrial output
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Fuel and light industries contributed to the growth of industrial output of Uzbekistan in the first quarter of 2009.

Fuel industry increased production by 18.3% year-on-year to 1.542 trillion soums in the reporting period. Share of fuel energy in industrial output was 24%.

Light industry output grew by 3% to 999.2 billion soums. The share of industry in total industrial output made up 15.6%.

Machinery and metal-working’s share in Uzbek industrial output was equal to 879 billion soums (up 15.5%), non-ferrous metallurgy - 665.2 billion soums (up 0.6%), electricity - 600.7 billion soums (down 1.6%).

Share of machinery and metal-working in industrial output was 13.7%, non-ferrous metallurgy - 10.4%, electricity - 9.4%.

Production of consumer goods in the country increased by 12.5% year-on-year to 1.853 trillion soums in the reporting period.

Out of them, 819.3 billion soums (up 9.7% year-on-year) were food products and 1.033 trillion soums (up 14.8%) were non-food products. Share of food industry in total industrial production increased from 9.4% in the first quarter of 2008 to 10.7% in the same period of 2009.
