Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Fraudsters who promised job placement in the United States for large sums of money have been arrested in Tashkent and Samarkand regions.
According to UzA, a 26-year-old resident of Samarkand region, A.N., was detained in the capital. He claimed he could arrange employment in the US for US$21,000 and was caught red-handed while receiving US$9,000.
In addition, in Urgut district of Samarkand region, S.A. and his son S.M. were arrested. The two promised to help local residents find jobs in the US, claiming to have connections who could facilitate employment.
They demanded US$11,000 from each individual, with 70% of the amount requested as an advance, while the remaining money was intended for document processing. The suspects were detained after receiving US$15,400.
Criminal cases have been initiated under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and an investigation is underway.
