Fourth session of “Discussion Club” takes place in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Fourth session of “Discussion Club” was held in Tashkent on 19 December 2012. The event was organized by the Center for Political Studies led by Professor Gulnara Karimova. The session was dedicated to “Globalization and civilization: nature of interaction”.

Discussion Club is a platform for establishing a professional dialogue between foreign and Uzbek experts, as it serves as a kind of basis for generating new views and ideas that may influence the development of politico-economic school of Uzbekistan both on theoretical and practical levels and promote it in wider global intellectual space.

Member of committee on international affairs of Iranian parliament and professor of Tehran University Mehdi Sanaei, deputy director of Oriental Institute of Russian Science Academy, head of Department on economic research Alexander Akimov (Russia), Professor of International Affairs School named after Elliott of George Washington University Sergey Gretskiy, Deputy director of Institute on studying Central Asia at Shanxi University Su Xiaoyu participated at the meeting.

Representatives of ministries and departments, higher educational establishments, scientific-analytical centers of Uzbekistan, international organizations and diplomatic corps, accredited in Tashkent, participated at the discussion club.

Experts considered actual aspects of processes of globalization, the complexity of their occurrence in the various cultures and civilizations of the spaces at current stage. It was stated that globalization brings both opportunities and some challenges for future development. It was noted that the most positive effects of globalization comes to global technological and economic progress, while on the spiritual value level more markedly manifest contradictions. This, experts say, points to the stability of cultural and traditional context within a civilization.

According to the experts, currently conflict occurs not so much between civilizations, but within individual civilizations themselves. The participants considered challenges of developing countries and developed states in globalization processes. They also discussed dispersed distribution of material goods in the world as precondition for interaction of civilizations. It was said that oil and natural gas are concentrated in Islamic states, while other key resources such as food fell to share of Western, Orthodox and Latin American civilization. In other word, demand of one civilization in one resource can be satisfied due to opportunities of other civilization, and vise-versa. Only, cooperation or conflict way of interaction should be selected.

The experts agreed that each civilization has its own concept of a global world, and attempts to impose external cultural values, standards of behavior are counterproductive. There are a number of universal principles of peaceful development, which can serve as an important basis for constructive dialogue among civilizations. A dialogue, according to experts, is the only way to overcome the current challenges and to ensure the development of civilizations.
