Food prices in Tashkent: What became cheaper and what became more expensive in March 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In March 2025, experts from the Institute of Macroeconomic and Regional Studies (IMRI) under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan conducted a price monitoring study on food products in Tashkent’s largest supermarkets. The study covered 21 product categories and revealed both price reductions and increases for certain items.

What Became Cheaper?

A decrease in prices was recorded for six items. The most significant drop was observed for potatoes, which became 19.8% cheaper. Prices also declined for yellow onions (by 10.3%), red carrots (by 3.4%), eggs (by 2.1%), bananas (by 0.9%), and sunflower oil (by 0.6%).

What Became More Expensive?

Price increases affected seven product categories, with tomatoes seeing the most significant rise due to seasonal factors.

Prices Remained Unchanged

For eight items, the minimum prices remained stable. This list includes wheat flour, rice, pasta, white cabbage, apples, chicken fillet, milk, and sugar.

The monitoring was conducted on 6 February and 13 March 2025. Experts note that food price fluctuations depend on various factors, including seasonality, harvest conditions, and logistics.
