Flight tests of modified Russian Il-76 aircraft to begin in 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Flight tests of the modified military-transport aircraft Il-76 will begin in 2011, the head of the military-transport division of the United Aircraft Building Corporation, Viktor Livanov, has told Interfax-AVN.

"Serial construction of Il-76MD aircraft was carried out at Tashkent aviation plant in Uzbekistan. Now modernized aircraft of this type will be built in Ulyanovsk," said Livanov.

He said that the modernized aircraft has been given a provisional name of Il-476.

The aircraft will have an effectively new wing, with modern technologies used in its manufacturing, and new avionics. Il-476 will be fitted with new Perm PS-90A-76 engines.

Livanov said that the decision to move serial production of Il-76 aircraft to Russia was taken when a contract for the delivery of around 40 Tashkent manufactured aircraft to China fell through.

As previously reported, the Ministry of Defence of Russia is planning to buy 38 Il-476 refuelling and military-transport aircraft under the state armament programme for 2011-2020.
