Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Five bridges worth over US$40 million were constructed along the Tashguzar-Baisun-Kumkurgan railway with technical and financial assistance of Japan.

Five metallic bridges were constructed as part of the Tashguzar-Baisun-Kumkurgan Railway Construction Project funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

The given bridges significantly differ from the bridges earlier constructed in Uzbekistan and the CIS countries. Their girders were made in Japan and Philippines at the factory of Nippon Stell Engineering. They are fastened with high endurance screws. The cement manufactured in Japan was used in construction of the bridges in accordance with the Japanese technology.

The total length of the bridges is 1,183 meters.

The Tashguzar-Baisun-Kumkurgan railway is 223 km in length. It was put into operation in August 2007. It is a strategically important road for development of the southern regions of Uzbekistan. The railway valued at US$447 million bypasses Turkmenistan and reduces the previous distance of passenger and cargo transportation by 170 km.
