First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction holds meeting with representatives of the World Bank

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 November, the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty  Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norkulov held a meeting with representatives of the World Bank.

Charles Korme, Regional Director, World Bank Infrastructure Sector, Sudeshna Ghosh Banerjee, Head of Global Energy Practice, Carla Gonzalez, Head of Global Transport Practice, Dmitry Petrin, Regional Cooperation Activities Coordinator, Antonio Nunez, Head of Infrastructure Program, Manuel, Lead Energy Expert, and other representatives were among the guests at the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by the director of the Department for the Development of the Green Economy of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Ortkirjon Kholbadalov, the head of the Department for the Development of the Fuel, Energy and Chemical Industry Kuvonchbek Mustafoev, the head of the Department of Roads. The event was attended by Rustam Narimov and the director of the Department for the Development of International Cooperation and protocol service Shukhrat Matkarimov.

During the meeting, issues of economic growth, the development of a “green” economy and ensuring “green” growth, the development of a Country Climate and Development Report, ongoing reforms in the energy sector, the development of a long-term strategy for decarbonizing the economy, in particular, decarbonization were discussed. energy sector, as well as accelerating the processes of digitization of the industry, improving infrastructure.

The Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the World Bank presented the conclusions and recommendations of a new joint report “Towards a Green Economy in Uzbekistan” at the II International Economic Forum of Uzbekistan, held in Samarkand on November 3-4.

The World Bank is supporting the government of Uzbekistan in its economic transformation and in setting strategic priorities for building climate resilience and enhancing stability. Green, Inclusive and Sustainable Growth is a key element of the recently adopted Country Partnership Program 2022-2026.

The country cooperation program contributes to the implementation of the New Development Strategy of Uzbekistan for 2022-2026, which includes, among other priority reforms, the transition to a green economy, environmental protection, energy efficiency and water conservation, prevention of land degradation and other reforms. At the same time, at the meeting, the parties exchanged views on reforming energy distribution, energy markets, ensuring energy stability and supporting ongoing projects.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to further expand cooperation.
