First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction holds meeting with representatives of the World Bank

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 September, the First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Norkulov held a meeting with representatives of the World Bank.

The meeting was attended by World Bank Senior Energy Specialists Ferhat Esen, Maksud Safarov, Irina Voitehovich and Koji Nishida, Senior Energy Economist Rafael Ferreira, Senior Climate Finance Specialist Jason Smith, Senior Legal Counsel Markus Polman and Lead Energy Specialist Manuel Berlenjero.

The meeting was also attended by Director of the Green Economy Development Department of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Utkirjon Kholbadalov, Head of the Fuel, Energy and Chemical Industry Development Department Kuvonchbek Mustafoev and Head of the Department for Coordinating the Implementation of the Green Economy Development Strategy and Programs Shokhzod Islamov.

During the meeting, issues of economic growth, development of a green economy and ensuring green growth, reforms carried out in the energy sector, in particular the decarbonization of the energy sector, as well as accelerating digitalization processes in the industry, improving infrastructure were discussed.

Together with the World Bank Group and the Transformative Carbon Asset Facility (TCAF), work was discussed to prepare the republic for international cooperation to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of the actions defined by Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

TCAF is a World Bank trust fund that supports the country's efforts to market carbon prices and invest in low-carbon technologies in the private sector.

At the same time, at the meeting, the parties exchanged views on energy markets, ensuring energy stability, and supporting ongoing projects.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to further expand cooperation.
