Field meeting of the National Anti-Corruption Council held in Karakalpakstan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 March 2024, a field meeting of the National Anti-Corruption Council was held in the Turtkul district of Karakalpakstan under the chairmanship of the head of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva.

The event was attended by members of the National and Territorial Councils, senators, deputies of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, representatives of district and city Councils of People’s Deputies, leaders of the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, ministries and departments, as well as activists and other invited guests.

During the meeting, measures to stabilize the crime situation and combat corruption in Karakalpakstan were discussed. It was noted that efforts in this area have reached a qualitatively new level.

As President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized at a meeting on March 5 this year, the fight against corruption remains one of the state’s key priorities. Since then, the activities of all structures have been revised and strengthened in line with the President’s directives.

Special attention is being paid to regional efforts, which is why this meeting of the National Council was held in Turtkul district.

As part of the event, working groups led by the heads of relevant parliamentary committees were formed. Particular focus was placed on analyzing the crime situation and assessing the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures on the ground.

A working group headed by Kutbiddin Burkhanov, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security, conducted a comprehensive study of the situation in Karakalpakstan. Reports from responsible officials were reviewed following the inspection.

It was revealed that shortcomings persist in the fields of internal affairs, healthcare, preschool, and school education. Heads of the relevant agencies provided explanations regarding the identified issues.

During the meeting, a set of measures was announced to grant Turtkul district the status of a "corruption-free territory." The coordination of this initiative has been assigned to the Anti-Corruption Agency and the Territorial Council, which will ensure the effective cooperation of all involved structures.

At the end of the discussions, specific instructions were given to responsible officials.
