Culture 28/11/2015 Festival of South Korean kimchi takes place in Uzbek capital

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Festival of South Korean kimchi was held in Tashkent on 27 November 2015. It was organized by Korea Program on International Agriculture (KOPIA) in Uzbekistan.

Representatives of Embassy of South Korea in Uzbekistan, Uzbek scientific-production center for agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan, Center for Education of Korea in Uzbekistan, KOICA in Uzbekistan, Association of Korean residents in Uzbekistan, teachers and students of the Uzbek universities and Association of Korean Cultural Centers in Uzbekistan attended the festival.

Opening festival director of KOPIA in Uzbekistan Ahn Heesung said tht the festival is aimed at familiarizing Uzbek citizens with cuisine of South Korea. He said that this year, the festival organizers want to demonstrate conjunction of kimchi and barbecue.

Within the festival, the organizers held a small master class, which demonstrated step-by-step preparation of kimchi. It is worth to mention that Koreans use pears, apples, ginger and seafood in the preparation of kimchi.

After the master-class, the participants prepared kimchi with help of volunteers. The organizers prepared all ingredients for kimchi – 1.5 tonnes of cabbage and 500 kg of filling.

The participants received booklets with the recipe of the kimchi, disposable gloves and packages. The instructors described each ingredient and how to prepare kimchi.

The participants had chance to taste kimchi, which they prepared, with barbecue. The organizers also treated the participants with traditional rice tteok and drink makgeolli (makkoli).

KOPIA center Ahn implements investment projects in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Uzbek scientific-production center for agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan.

Korea Project on International Agricultural (KOPIA) center and Uzbek scientific-production center for agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan have been successfully cooperating in agriculture since 2009.

KOPIA center sponsors several projects in agriculture sector in Uzbekistan and conducts scientific-research activities with scientific-research institutes of Uzbekistan, exchange specialists, holds trainings for Uzbek agriculture specialists.
