Ferghana Chemical Factory of Furan Compounds launches production of carboxymethyl cellulose
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ferghana Chemical Factory of Furan Compounds Unitary Enterprise started production of carboxymethyl cellulose, which is used in oil and gas industry as thickener and stabilizer of boring solutions.

Earlier, Uzbekistan oil and gas producers imported carboxymethyl cellulose from abroad. Carboxymethyl cellulose is also widely used in pharmaceutical industry and production of household chemical goods, food and varnish-and-paint industries.

Innovation Center under the Uzkimyosanoat state joint stock company projected and created the facility on production of carboxymethyl cellulose.

Main consumers of cotton cellulose are Russia and Ukraine, including Kazan Gunpowder Plant, Tambov Gunpowder Plant and Perm Gunpowder Plant, Aleksin Chemical Plant, Biy Oleum Plant, Karbokam Perm, Plastmass-Priluki, Ukross Banknote Paper Plant.

Partners of Ferghana Chemical Factory of Furan Compounds are also Special Paper Plant in Durkheim, large companies in China, Bulgaria, Serbia, Iran, and Indonesia. Russian company Belis and Lenahim are main distributors of the Uzbek cotton cellulous to markets of Russia and Western Europe, which purchase cellulous at the plant at the volume of 39.5% and 59.2% respectively.

Ferghana Chemical Factory of Furan Compounds was founded in 1946 in connection with need of use of ethyl alcohol in defence industry. The first line was launched that year and 3,600 decaliters of ethyl alcohol. During the first years of operation, the capacities on furfural production and facility on production of crystal xylite was launched. In 1965, the shop on production of tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol and forage yeast, as well as capacities on manufacturing of hydrogen shop and nitric facility were commissioned.

After independence of Uzbekistan, the plant introduced new technologies. In 2002, the line on production of cotton cellulose of European standard was launched at the financial assistance of German investors. Currently, the daily production volume reached 35 tonnes. In March, the plant started to produce cotton wool from waste of cotton cellulose line. Currently, the plant produces cotton cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, bore reagent FXL-1 and cotton wool. The enterprise focuses on satisfying demand of the internal market.

Raw material suppliers are cotton plants of Uzbekistan (cotton lint), AGMK (sulphuric acid), Navoiazot (hypocloride), Kungrad Soda Plant (technical salt), and private firms (kitchen salt and various chemical products).

Ferghana Chemical Factory of Furan Compounds produces all goods only from local raw materials, which positively impacts prime costs of the products. The plant launched capacities on production of boring reagent in short term. These chemical products were required to economy of Uzbekistan, in particulat in chemical, oil and gas industries. Defence Ministry and large industrial enterprises are main consumers of ethyl alcohol.

Uzkimyosanoat issued preferential loan to rehabilitate the second line of alpha cellulose. The long-term loan allowed the plant to start production of new goods. Part of the loan was invested to reanimation of old production lines. These shops are reorganized to compact and modern production, which is envisaged by the Localization Programme of the Government of Uzbekistan.
