Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Agency for Print and Information, Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Association of Electronic Mass Media, Public Fund on support and development of independent print mass media and information agencies, Independent Institute on Monitoring of Formation of Civil Society and Information Technologies Association organized the event.

Heads and representatives of over 300 mass media, polygraph enterprises, information services of state bodies and enterprises of Uzbekistan are taking part in the work of exhibition and forum.

Local mass media, information agencies and publishing houses presented their products and services at the exhibition.

At the forum, the participants considered issues related to reforming information space, role and place of mass media in formation of civil society, development of independent mass media, new legislations, etc.

According to the Uzbek Agency for Print and Information, number of mass media in Uzbekistan made u 475 in 1994 and now their number hit 1,292. Some 514 of them are non-governmental mass media.

For last ten years, number of mass media rose twice. Currently, there are about 715 newspapers, 263 magazines and four news agencies.
