Ex-Uzbek police jailed for seven years over corruption
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Yakkasaroy district criminal court of Tashkent has found Bakhtiyor Sirliboyev, former inspector of the main directorate for crime prevention under the Uzbek Interior Ministry, guilty of committing a crime under Article 210 Part 2 (receiving a bribe in a large amount) of the Uzbek Criminal Code and has sentenced him to seven years in prison.

The former policeman had arrested 12 young women working at the Karaoke Albatros club, accusing them of prostitution.

Bakhtiyor Sirliboyev demanded from the club director a ransom of US$250 for each alleged prostitute - a total of US$3,000. The law enforcers advised the director to agree to deal with the blackmailer. He agreed on the deal, saying he would give only a half of the amount first and would give the other half after the release of the employees," the source noted.

He said that the former inspector was detained at the moment of receiving the bribe.

Representatives of relevant agencies arrested the corrupt policeman with irrefutable evidence.
