In Germany, the number of new cases of infection is growing: over the past 24 hours it has increased by 587. In the west of the country, re-quarantine has been introduced in two areas for 360 thousand residents after a massive outbreak of coronavirus at a local meat processing plant, Euronews reports.

In Italy, Europe’s most affected country, the daily increase in new infections was 122.

Professor Maurizio Cecconi of the Humanitas University of Medicine in Milan: “We are ready for patients with Covid-19 to return. The start of the epidemic took us by surprise, so now we are preparing to work on the basis of two key principles - containing the spread of infection in society and in the hospital environment and preparing for a sharp increase in the number of patients in intensive care units in the event of a second wave. ”

In Italy, 62 cases were recorded in northern Lombardy, which became the epicenter of the outbreak. While in eight out of 20 regions of Italy over the past day no one has been infected, in 10 regions there are no patients in intensive care units.

Professor Joseph Kesejioglu, European Intensive Care Society: “We know what awaits us, but we hope that everything will not be as bad as before. We have an action plan in public and private hospitals. We are ready for extra beds. We know what to do in the case of the second wave. We have equipment and medical supplies, but even if everything is necessary, the most important thing is that there is enough medical staff, staff who care for patients.”

In Portugal, new foci of infection have been discovered. Over the past month, over 9,200 cases of infection have been registered in the country, most of them in the capital region. In this connection, restrictive measures are being tightened in Lisbon - more than 10 people cannot gather in groups, cafes and shops should be closed by 8 o’clock in the evening.
