In the 38th minute, Austrian defender Maximilian Wöber cut the ball into his own goal, allowing the French to take the lead.

For the second time in a row at the European Championships, the French side opened the score in their first match thanks to an own goal from their opponents.

The national teams of Austria and France compete in Group C. Their opponents in the group stage are the national teams of the Netherlands and Poland.
