Environmental Challenges: The Future of Human Rights and Finding Sustainable Solutions in a Changing World

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – The IV Samarkand Forum on Human Rights “Environmental Challenges: The Future of Human Rights and Finding Sustainable Solutions in a Changing World” will be held in Uzbekistan on 13-14 June 2024.

Within the framework of the forum, three plenary sessions are planned to be held offline and online.

The main goal of the Samarkand Forum this year is to discuss issues related to the impact of climate change on human rights. In addition to obtaining the necessary knowledge in this area, participants in the international conference will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and become familiar with the best practices of the international community.

The Forum will focus on developing concrete recommendations and solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on human rights. The discussion is expected to serve as a forum for experts from various fields to develop effective strategies and approaches that will help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and protect the rights of all people in a changing climate.

The national organizers of the forum are the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the Development Strategy Center.

Among the international co-organizers of the forum are the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, the OHCHR Regional Office for Central Asia, UNDP in Uzbekistan, the Office of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Stiftung. It is planned that 200 experts will take part in the forum. In particular, domestic and foreign experts, climate specialists, officials of government organizations involved in climate change issues, representatives of civil society institutions, the media, research centers, companies, business circles and international organizations were invited.
