Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The speech of French President E Emmanuel Macron in the French city of Le Muro, dedicated to the fight against Islamist separatism, caused a great resonance in the world media.
Calling on the French to return to the spirit of the 1905 law, according to which "freedom of conscience in France is combined with the secular nature of the state," E. Macron stressed the need to cleanse "French Islam" of foreign influence.
At the same time, the head of the French Republic initiated the adoption in 2021 of the Law on Combating Islamist Separatism, which should include the following key measures, in particular:
First, the fight against illegal religious schools. E. Macron expressed concern about the popularization of underground hujras in French society. According to him, Muslim children living in disadvantaged areas of France do not attend public schools, but receive religious education at home. Thus, the bill provides, starting from 2021, a strict restriction on homeschooling, and schooling is compulsory from the age of three. According to Le Figaro, more than 50,000 children are studying at home today.
Secondly, the cultivation of "French Islam". The French President announced his intention to limit foreign influence on the lives of French Muslims. For this it is assumed:
1) create a system for training domestic imams;
2) teaching the Arabic language in schools and circles, financing research on Islamic studies;
3) gradual prohibition of the activities of foreign preachers;
4) control over the financing of mosques and other foreign Muslim organizations.
At the same time, the measures proposed by the President caused a violent reaction from the Muslim community in France. According to the BBC, Muslim activists criticized E. Macron’s proposals in social networks. In particular, they said that "the head of state buried freedom, encouraged the extreme right and anti-Muslim left." Some experts believe that the president’s speech is intended for voters of the right-wing camp, as he is already thinking about the elections in 2022.
In general, E. Macron’s speech confirms the concern of the Elysee Palace about the increasing radicalization of Muslim youth in France. Some experts believe that the main goal of E. Macron’s speech is to gain the confidence of conservative-minded voters before the upcoming elections.
