Eleven people from Uzbekistan were banned entry into South Korea Monday when they were found to have falsely posed as shooters for an international competition in Incheon, immigration officials said.

They have been interrogated since last Wednesday when they were caught upon arrival at Incheon International Airport, Yonhap reported.

They disguised themselves as part of Uzbekistan’s national team for the second Korea Open Shooting Championships, which opened in Cheongwon, 88 kilometers south of Seoul, last Thursday, but failed to properly answer simple questions about shooting, according to the officials.

The incident followed the disappearance in April of an 18-member national shooting team from Kyrgyzstan that entered the country for the International Shooting Sports Federation competition in Changwon, a southern industrial city.

The officials said they will look closely at foreigners from countries that possibly engage in human smuggling to stem rising human smuggling attempts, the report added.
