Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will test electronic voting on the day of parliamentary elections at several polling stations in Tashkent.

On 12 October, the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution to trial the electronic voting process on election day at select polling stations, as reported by the CEC press service.

This will mark the first electronic voting trial in the country’s history, aimed at simplifying the voting process for citizens.

Plans are in place to test 37 electronic voting devices, which have already been utilized in countries such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil, Singapore, and Australia. These devices have facilitated over 6.5 billion votes worldwide.

According to the CEC, electronic voting will accelerate the vote counting process, enhance the legitimacy of elections, and optimize the workload of election commissions.

Voters at the polling stations where testing takes place will have the option to choose between traditional and electronic voting methods.

Additionally, instructions for completing the ballot using electronic devices have been approved.

During the commission meeting, the possibility of live streaming the voting process at polling stations via the internet was discussed, and measures were established to organize video broadcasts at the stations that meet the necessary technical requirements.
