Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – By the end of 2024, Uzbekistan will launch solar panel production projects with capacities of 300 MW in Karshi and 200 MW in Nukus, according to Namoz Tolipov, head of the information department of the Uzeltekhsanoat association.
In the first half of 2024, the electric engineering sector produced goods worth over 12 trillion soums, a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
The investment program saw a total of US$131.1 million invested, with US$116.5 million coming from foreign direct investments and loans. Within regional programs, 17 projects were launched, creating production capacities valued at 1.4 trillion soums.
Exports amounted to US$560.3 million, with around 200 types of products shipped to 72 countries, marking an 18.8% growth. Notably, products were first exported to the US, Canada, India, Libya, Cyprus, Qatar, and Israel. Additionally, exports to Canada and the United States were achieved for the first time, and cable and copper tube exports to Italy and India have commenced.
Taking advantage of GSP+ privileges, Uzbek electric engineering products have entered six European countries. Efforts to attract foreign brands have led to the production of home appliances under the Japanese brand “JVC” (Kenwood) and China’s “TCL.”
Copper raw materials are crucial for the electric engineering industry. In the past six months, 42,000 tons of copper raw materials were processed, with payments to the budget by association member enterprises amounting to 415 billion soums.
By the end of the year, 85 new projects totaling US$485 million will be launched across regions. In 2024, production capacity is expected to increase by 20%, with exports projected to reach US$1.5 billion.
Copper raw material processing will also be increased to 140,000 tons. Additionally, five projects from the “Copper Cluster” of the Ohangaron district and a technology park specializing in household appliances will begin operations in the Bukhara region.
