Uzbekistan 09/08/2010 Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister visits Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs of Egypt, Ambassador Ahmed Fathalla, visited Uzbekistan on 9 August and met with Mr. Vladimir Norov Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan to hand him a written message from Foreign Minister, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

The message welcomes the continuing cooperation and coordination between Egypt and Uzbekistan in various regional and international issues, as well as Egypt's interest to promote aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Ahmed Fathalla also met with a number of ministers and officials in the Uzbek government to strengthen ties of cooperation between the two countries. In this context, Ambassador Fathallah conveyed a number of Egyptian proposals to advance bilateral relations in various fields including agricultural production, information technology, telecommunications, electricity and energy, in addition to discussing with the Uzbek side a number of actions to promote greater trade.

The visit reviewed the Egyptian cultural activities in Uzbekistan, mainly the Egyptian Cultural Center in Tashkent, as well as three Arabic language teaching centers established by the Egyptian Ministry of Waqf in the cities of Tashkent and Samarqand.

The visit comes within the framework of Egypt's keenness to strengthen its relations with strategic countries of Central Asia, and also in light of the desire to keep consultation and coordination between all countries that are members of both the Organization of Non -Aligned Movement; Egypt holds the presidency since July 2009, and the Organization of Islamic Conference, which Egypt will also chair in March 2011.
