EEC and Uzbekistan agree to simplify customs procedures and develop a "green corridor"
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 13 March, the fourth meeting on trade and economic cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and the Government of Uzbekistan took place in Moscow.
The meeting was attended by EEC Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics Eldar Alisherov, Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan Khurram Teshabayev, and Director of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture Shukhrat Otajonov.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral trade and logistics cooperation, implementing new projects, removing existing barriers, and expanding collaboration in the agricultural and industrial sectors.
A key topic was the development of new transport and logistics routes for agricultural and food products within the Eurasian Agroexpress project, increasing trade volumes, and resolving transportation challenges. Additionally, the initiative for the mutual recognition of pharmaceutical product identification was proposed to enhance drug safety and streamline their acceptance across different countries. Further discussions covered Uzbekistan's industrial cooperation with EAEU member states, the effective use of innovative resources in agriculture, and joint projects in this sector.
Particular attention was given to improving the customs transit system to simplify and accelerate trade processes and introducing a "green corridor" mechanism for transport operators.
Shukhrat Otajonov, a member of the working group, presented proposals for implementing advanced agricultural practices in Uzbekistan and supporting the Eurasian Agroexpress project. He highlighted the importance of developing innovative technologies in agriculture and attracting investment to the sector. Additionally, he introduced specific directions and implementation mechanisms for programs developed by the Ministry of Agriculture to fulfill initiatives proposed by Uzbekistan’s leadership at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
It was noted that these initiatives will be reviewed by the Eurasian Economic Commission in May 2025. Furthermore, a business dialogue on trade and logistics between Uzbekistan and the EAEU is planned for 2025, while the fifth meeting of the working group will be hosted by Uzbekistan in 2026.
The meeting marked a significant milestone in strengthening trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and EAEU member states. Such initiatives contribute to agricultural, industrial, and logistics development while helping eliminate existing barriers in these sectors.
