Economy of Ferghana region grows by 10.5% in 1Q 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The gross regional product (GRP) of Ferghana region, eastern Uzbekistan, grew by 10.5% in the first quarter of 2011, the session of Ferghana Region’s Deputies Council said.

The industrial output of the region increased by 7.3% in the reporting period, production of consumer goods – 13.5%, agriculture production – 5.1%, construction works – 70.7%, retail trade turnover – 14.4% and services – 14.4%.

UzA reported that the region carried out work on modernization of capacities, attracting investments and increasing production volume. New capacities within the 11 projects have been launched in the reporting period.

In line with the state programme “The Year of the Small Business and Private Entrepreneurship”, commercial banks allocated 59.3 billion soums to support small and private businesses.

The region created over 21,600 new jobs due to development of small and private businesses, organization of outworks, and development of service sector in the reporting period. About 71% of created jobs fell to share of rural areas.
