EBRD supporting Uzbek charitable organisations that promote inclusion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), through its Community Initiative, which engages the institution and its staff in philanthropic, social and cultural activities in the regions where the Bank operates, is supporting inclusion in Uzbekistan.

Three charitable organisations have received a total of €50,000 to continue their work to support less advantaged communities. These include Sharoit Plus, an initiative focused on people with disabilities, the Opa-singillar Qibray Society for Women with Disabilities, and Rahmdillik, which provides vital emergency shelter and rehabilitation for women and children.

The donation to Sharoit Plus will improve the legal literacy of people with disabilities through a web portal with universally accessible content. The funding to Opa-singillar will go towards training on legal and employment rights for 150 women with disabilities and mothers of children with disabilities. The funds to Rahmdillik will help it promote access to a favourable and fair legal environment for rural women and girls experiencing discrimination.

EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso said: “Inclusion is one of the Bank’s three strategic priorities. It is fundamental to the sustainable development we are trying to achieve in the economies where we operate, so we are proud to be able to support three non-profit organisations that work to strengthen local communities by making sure that everyone – regardless of age, ability, gender or income – has the same opportunities in life.”

The EBRD Community Initiative is providing a special, targeted charitable donation to Uzbekistan, the host country of this year’s EBRD Annual Meeting, to leave a lasting, post-event legacy with a wider, positive social impact.
